Quiz formats, questions and results

Every quiz uses one of five formats. The format decides which question types you can use and how the result is picked. Scoring always happens on our side when a player finishes, so players cannot see answer weights, points or correct answers in advance.

Which format should I pick?

How does a personality quiz pick a result?

On the Build tab, give each answer option points toward one or more results (Points toward results). When the player finishes, the result with the highest total wins. If two results tie, the one listed first on the Results tab wins, so put the result you prefer in a tie higher up.

Personality quizzes, 16-type style tests and scored quizzes use Multiple choice questions. Only those questions count toward the result.

How does a 16-type style test work?

1. Set up 2 to 6 axes. Each axis has two letters, each letter is a single character from A to Z or 0 to 9, and every letter must be unique.
2. For each answer option, pick an axis, the letter it leans toward and a weight.
3. Choose which letter wins on a tie for each axis (On a tie, pick).

The winning letter of each axis combines into a code. For example, 4 axes give 16 result codes. The Results tab creates a slot for every code, and each one needs a title before you can publish. If you change the axes later, results that no longer match are marked Unused and you can clear them with Remove unused.

Engage is not affiliated with any trademarked personality assessment, so please write your own type names and descriptions.

How does a trivia or score quiz work?

Choose a Scoring mode for each question:

• Right or wrong: mark the correct answer. Each correct answer is worth 1 point.
• Points: give each option its own points.

On the Results tab, each result covers a score range. Together the ranges must cover every possible score exactly once, with no gaps and no overlaps. Split evenly divides the ranges for you, and the coverage check shows any scores that still need fixing.

How does a bracket work?

Pick a Bracket size of 4, 8, 16, 32 or 64 and add exactly that many items. Add many lets you paste one item per line. Each round, items are paired at random and the player picks one from each pair until a single winner is left.

Every item becomes a possible result, and the result's name and image come from the item. After finishing, players see a leaderboard with how often each item has won and its match win rate. Brackets do not use regular questions or jumps.

What can I ask in a survey?

Surveys support Multiple choice, Checkboxes, Short answer, Paragraph, Rating (1 to 5 stars), Email, Phone number, Number and Date. There is no result. Instead, players see the Ending screen you set on the Results tab.

Can an answer skip ahead to a later question?

Yes, in every format except brackets. Under After this answer, choose Next question, a later question, or Go to result (Go to the end in surveys). Jumps can only move forward. A jump back to an earlier question, or to a question that no longer exists, blocks publishing until you fix it.

To make a question mandatory, turn on Required.

What is the lead card?

The lead card is a Pro feature that asks for contact details right before the result. It is available in personality quizzes, 16-type style tests, scored quizzes and brackets. Surveys collect contact details with Email and Phone number questions instead.

• You can have one lead card, placed right before the result.
• Choose any of Name, Email and Phone, and write your consent text.
• Details are saved only when the player ticks the consent box. Phone numbers need a separate phone consent checkbox.
• Players can always skip the lead card and still see their result.
• Quizzes with a lead card always ask players to confirm they are 13 or older.

How does the age check work?

Set Age check on the Design tab to Off, 13+ or 18+.

• 18+: players who say they are under 18 cannot take the quiz.
• 13+: players who say they are under 13 can still play, but the lead card is skipped for them.

What do players see on the result screen?

• The result title, description and image.
• What everyone else got, the share of players who reached each result, in personality quizzes, 16-type style tests and scored quizzes. Brackets show a Leaderboard instead.
• "For entertainment only" under personality and 16-type results.
• Share buttons, including Save story image.
• On Pro and above, an optional button on each result (Add a button on the Results tab) and an optional Redirect after result that sends players to your page 5 seconds after the result, with Continue now and Stay here options.

What images can I use?

You can upload PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF images up to 5 MB for the cover, questions, answer options, results, bracket items and question backgrounds. For everything except backgrounds you can also click Generate with AI, describe the image and choose an aspect ratio (1:1, 4:5 or 16:9). The price in credits is shown before you generate, and credits are only used once the image is saved. Please avoid real people, logos and brand names in prompts.
