Which posts appear on the home page?

The home page is made up of Today's picks, recommendations by topic and Just posted. On a topic page you can switch between Recommended and Latest.

The recommended order is set automatically and takes the following into account.

• Reader reactions such as hearts, comments and views
• Time since publishing (newer posts get a boost)
• The author's plan and whether they are verified

Plan and verification only move a post a little further up when other things are similar. A post with far more reactions can come out ahead regardless of plan. In addition, our team may pin great posts to the home page or remove posts that do not meet our policies from recommendations.

My post does not show up in the topic recommendations

• If you did not choose a topic when writing, the post will not appear in topic recommendations. Edit the post and choose a topic.
• Drafts do not appear in recommendations. Check that you clicked Publish.
• The home page is cached briefly, so a new post may take a moment to appear. Refresh after a little while.

How do I leave a comment?

Sign in and type in the comment box below the post. A comment can be up to 2,000 characters.

• Click Reply on a comment to reply to it. Replies are only indented one level. If you reply to a reply, it is added under the same comment with the other person's name in front.
• Comments written by the post's author are marked Author.

Who can delete a comment?

The person who wrote the comment and the author of the post. If a deleted comment has replies, a "This comment was deleted" placeholder stays in its place so the conversation still makes sense.

How are hearts and views counted?

• You can leave a heart once you are signed in, and only once per post. Clicking again removes it.
• Views go up each time a post is opened, but authors viewing their own posts are not counted.

What are the blue check and the PRO and ULTRA labels next to names?

• Blue check (verified badge): shown for bloggers our team has verified. It appears on post cards, the blog home page and comments.
• PRO, ULTRA: shown for bloggers on those paid plans. The free plan has no label. If you change plans, the label changes too.
