When a trade fails or looks wrong

A blockchain trade cannot be undone once it settles. Checking before you sign is the surest safeguard there is.

Check before signing

• The token address: there are many fake tokens with the same name. Pick from the list, or verify the official address yourself.
• The amount you receive: make sure the expected amount and the price impact look reasonable. A large price impact means there is not enough liquidity.
• The network: confirm your wallet is on the chain you intended. Assets sent on the wrong chain cannot be recovered.

My trade failed

There are three common causes.

1. Not enough gas: you need the chain's native coin (ETH, BNB, MATIC and so on) in your wallet. With tokens but no native coin you cannot send a transaction.
2. Slippage exceeded: if the price moves outside your tolerance while you are signing, the trade reverts. In volatile periods, raise the tolerance a little or try again shortly.
3. Missing or insufficient approval: the approve transaction has not been processed yet, or the amount is too small. Try again once the approval is confirmed.

A failed trade can still consume gas. That is how the blockchain works and we cannot refund it, which we appreciate is frustrating.

I sent the trade but nothing happened

When the network is congested, confirmation takes time. Check the status on the block explorer. If it stays pending for a long while, you can use your wallet's speed up or cancel feature.

My wallet will not connect

• Check whether your browser extension wallet is locked, and unlock it.
• Several wallet extensions running at once can conflict. Leave one enabled and refresh.
• On mobile, connecting through the wallet app's built in browser is more reliable.
